torch song trilogy

Written By: Harvey Fierstein
Directed By: Orla McKeagney
Production Premiere:  April 1996

The action centres on Arnold Beckoff, a torch song-singing Jewish drag queen living in 1980’s New York City. .

This award-winning and popular work broke new theatrical ground as Fierstein challenged both gay and straight audiences to champion an effeminate gay man’s longings for love and family.

It won both a Tony and a Drama Desk award for ‘Best New Play’ when it ran on Broadway in 1982.

This Irish premiere is an evening of theatre back-projected by the happenings in a tatty, sleazy, drag queen club.

It was revived November 1997 at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.
