The Occasional Gardener 2024

A Gardening & Arts Therapy Programme for Older People

Funded by Arts Council of Northern Ireland Arts and Older People’s Fund.

With additional support from Unite the Union.

Lead artist Carol Moore with Kat Regan, Paula O’Reilly and Anna O’Kane

Lead in partnership with the Macklin Group

The Occasional Gardener: a participation project led by artist, actor and facilitator Carol Moore delivered in Macklin Care Homes.

This earthy project will engage participants to stimulate memory and the senses, and will involve gardening activities such as planting seeds, bulbs, and baskets; using plants and flowers to stimulate the senses, and exploring reminiscence techniques, singing, movement and art.

Across 6 weeks we will facilitate immersive sessions across Arlington, Our Lady’s & Park Manor Care Homes, working on everything from self watering plant-pots, bird feeders with fat balls, nature inspired mobiles and plaster casts of garden plants!

Park Manor – “After this project, our residents are so confident and interactive with other residents and staff. Loved the powerpoint idea for reminiscing.  Wish you could bring more projects like this in future in our home; we will welcome with full heart. Love your support to the residents while doing our gardening at the same time.”
