Lift of was created in July 2002 at Art College, University of Ulster, BELFAST and Supported by the Cultural Development Department at University of Ulster
A Youth Training Initiative using combined skills in the performing arts
A 10-day summer training scheme for 14-19 year olds who want to be involved in Drama. Taught by professional practitioners, the course will cover drama, voice work, stage combat and dance, culminating in a showcase performance.
Tutors
Rachel O’Riordan – Facilitator
Rachel trained at the Royal Ballet School, the Kirov Ballet and Central School of Speech and Drama. Rachel has worked as Assistant Director to many companies in Ireland and the United Kingdom and as Choreographer to most of the independent companies in the North of Ireland. At present Rachel is Co Director of 1564 and Ransom Productions. She will be directing projects for both these companies in the near future.
Karl Wallace – Facilitator
Karl is the Artistic Director of Award wining and international touring company Kabosh as well as Co Director of 1564. Karl has directed for The Peacock Theatre Dublin, The Lyric Theatre Belfast and TEAM as well as assistant directed at The Open Air Theatre, London and for the Gate Theatre Dublin. Karl is a graduate of the Royal National Theatre Directors course and the University of Ulster, he holds a BA Hons in Theatre Studies. Karl also worked and trained at the English National Opera as a Chorus member between 1980 and 1986.
Richard Dormer – Guest Teacher
Richard trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) having previously trained as part of the Ulster Youth Theatre. His credits include: Billy Budd and Beautiful Thing in London’s West End as well as numerous plays across UK and Ireland.
