Ring of Steel
A new play produced by Kabosh
Directed by Kate Morrison Catterall and Paula McFetridge
Memories of our city centre security cordon and regular civilian searches are shared between all Belfast communities, cutting across sectarian, class and gender lines. Images of the Ring of Steel were flashed across the world, the structures becoming part of our global identity. On this, the 50th anniversary of their construction, local artists stationed at the four main historic access points to the city will conjure once more (for a 12-hour period) these oppressive structures, illuminating the day-to-day reality of living through the conflict.
This durational event, produced by Kabosh, is a curated convergence of architectural drawings, choreography, performance, and story-gathering that will challenge our contested notions of identity, offer an opportunity for momentary discovery, and provide a mechanism for reflection.
