Kabosh at the first ever Lughnasa International Friel Festival!

We are delighted to be taking part in the first ever Lughnasa International Friel festival. Taking place in Donegal August 20th – 26th followed by Belfast 27th – 31st there are some amazing events lined up.

On Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd August we are staging a rehearsed reading of Friel’s first play The Enemy Within in the historic Pobail Teach Naomh Colmcille (St. Columba’s Church), located in the beautiful setting of Glencolmcille. Surely there isn’t a more fitting place to bring to life Friel’s imagining of the life of St. Columba (Colmcille).

We will then be bringing the reading to Belfast on Saturday 29th August to the atmospheric First Presbyterian Church on Rosemary Street.

First staged in 1962, The Enemy Within is Friel’s fictional account of the voluntary exile of Columba. Set in Iona, where Columba lived for 34 years following his departure from Ireland in 563, it concentrates on the private man, a charismatic, worldly personality who struggled to combine the skills of scholar, bard and ruler with his fearless commitment to his vocation.

We have an exceptional cast of Ulster actors including Peter Ballance, Jim Doran, Thomas Finnegan, Vincent Higgins, Gerard Jordan, Terence Keeley, Frank McCusker, Noel McGee, Seamus O’Hara and Lalor Roddy.
